Conclusion

Conclusion

Change is inevitable and although the idea of going to a college campus and spend time in classrooms might vanish over time because of online learning, the benefits of this type of education will outweigh the loss of the traditional day of a college student. Education through the internet is a creative and innovative way for students to expand their knowledge. The advancements in technology are ultimately leading new generations more towards online classes. There is no question that people who work full time jobs and still want to further their education find this new method very useful. After all, the goal of educating people, in a lecture hall or through the internet, is the same as it was one hundred years ago: create a better society through knowledge.

I think that this was a very Interesting blog to read up on. You all are exactly right about the educational world seeing opportunity in online education and developing better and better resources to teach online. These new methods as you point out give students flexibility within their own learning. As you say it allows people to go and do their work on their own time and therefore allows students to manage their own time. Personally I think that this is a difficult task yet a task that can be utilized in the real world after graduation. Once we are into our careers there is going to be a lot more independent work where we need to manage our own time and make sure we accomplish all parts of the job, as we have to do in online classes. I was wondering if people thought that online education was due to technological determinism or something more on the lines of social determinism? Personally I think that there was a time conflict for people when it comes to classes that require attendance at a certain time. Therefore I think that the Internet offered a perfect way to allow students to have access to the same type of course materials any time they choose. Under this view of things I would say that it is mostly due to a social constructionalist point of view.

I was also wondering if taking an online class has helped anyone developed different skills needed to have success in this type of a classroom environment rather than a traditional classroom environment? Personally I think that toward the end I started to develop more time management skills and keeping due dates organized. Usually in a classroom environment we have to go to class and there are announcements made to remind students about upcoming tests and papers. I think that I have learned how to be more independent with my education and I think that it is a great skill to develop through online education.
